Probably the closest a comic book iteration came to the early short stories of Andrzej Sapkowski both in style, tone, and themes。 That said, the earliest Witcher stories ain't perfect: the narrative could come off as disorganized at times, and Fading Memories shares this attribute, even though one could make the argument that it's intentional since it fits with one of the major themes, that I wouldn't spoil here。 The artwork can be sloppy at times which I cannot decide if it's the fault of the a Probably the closest a comic book iteration came to the early short stories of Andrzej Sapkowski both in style, tone, and themes。 That said, the earliest Witcher stories ain't perfect: the narrative could come off as disorganized at times, and Fading Memories shares this attribute, even though one could make the argument that it's intentional since it fits with one of the major themes, that I wouldn't spoil here。 The artwork can be sloppy at times which I cannot decide if it's the fault of the artist himself, or something went wrong during the coloring process。 Still, the art works well for the majority of the volume。 Along with Fox Children and Of Flesh and Flame, this is my favorite Witcher comic from Dark Horse。 。。。more

Not the best of the graphic Witcher series I have read。

The story was okay。 My least favourite thing about it was the art。 For such a short graphic novel, more effort should have been made to make the artwork look more refined and finished。

This was ok, I kept reading no problem, but compared to prior volumes the artwork was not inspired, and Geralt was very dark without his usual humor or friends to help him with his way。 If this was a change in author & artist because it changed publisher it was underwhelming。 But。。。loving all lore Witcher, I'll hope the next volume is better。 This was ok, I kept reading no problem, but compared to prior volumes the artwork was not inspired, and Geralt was very dark without his usual humor or friends to help him with his way。 If this was a change in author & artist because it changed publisher it was underwhelming。 But。。。loving all lore Witcher, I'll hope the next volume is better。 。。。more

I read The Witcher, Vol。 5: Fading Memories in about 30 minutes。 Just like a classic Witcher-story, the plot was full of monsters and morals。 The pictures were beautifully drawn, fitting perfectly with the depressive plot and tone of voice。 I loved seeing Geralt again, solving the story and "saving" the day。 I read The Witcher, Vol。 5: Fading Memories in about 30 minutes。 Just like a classic Witcher-story, the plot was full of monsters and morals。 The pictures were beautifully drawn, fitting perfectly with the depressive plot and tone of voice。 I loved seeing Geralt again, solving the story and "saving" the day。 。。。more

Probably the darkest Witcher volume, with deep meaning and sad storyline。 I absolutely loved the poetic vibes of it, the gloomy art and the lack of nonsense that’s often written in comics just to make it funny。 This one was definitely one of my favorites out of the ones I’ve read so far。

3。5 starsI always wish for these graphic novels to be longer。。。 I am a huge Witcher fan, but this volume was in my opinion not as enjoyable and well-constructed as its predecessors。 It was still a good read though!

Geralt investigates a town plagued by foglets, but these foglets don't act like foglets。 This volume is light on action and heavy on confusion。 All of the jumping back and forth between multiple stories made the story really difficult to follow。 The art wasn't great either as the artist was doing a poor Mike Mignola imitation。Received a review copy from Dark Horse and Edelweiss。 Geralt investigates a town plagued by foglets, but these foglets don't act like foglets。 This volume is light on action and heavy on confusion。 All of the jumping back and forth between multiple stories made the story really difficult to follow。 The art wasn't great either as the artist was doing a poor Mike Mignola imitation。Received a review copy from Dark Horse and Edelweiss。 。。。more

Light on action with a confusing plot。

This one was probably the darkest, most depressing Witcher comic of them all。 As usual I'm impressed with the layers of human relations, the moral gray areas, the complicated situations Geralt is put in。 Monsters that aren't monsters, humans that are, and those in between who just try to get by and live。 Including Geralt himself。 A short but very full story that comes full circle。 This one was probably the darkest, most depressing Witcher comic of them all。 As usual I'm impressed with the layers of human relations, the moral gray areas, the complicated situations Geralt is put in。 Monsters that aren't monsters, humans that are, and those in between who just try to get by and live。 Including Geralt himself。 A short but very full story that comes full circle。 。。。more

One of the better Witcher comics to date, Fading Memories deals with a lot of the more underlying themes of the later Witcher books, other than 'just' monsters to kill or mysteries to solve。 Good flow of the story and very good art (aside from one véry bad panel which I can't help but wonder how that made it in。 Can't spoil but you'll know it when you see it。)Overall, very enjoyable。 One of the better Witcher comics to date, Fading Memories deals with a lot of the more underlying themes of the later Witcher books, other than 'just' monsters to kill or mysteries to solve。 Good flow of the story and very good art (aside from one véry bad panel which I can't help but wonder how that made it in。 Can't spoil but you'll know it when you see it。)Overall, very enjoyable。 。。。more

Loved the art, loved the concept, and also the fact that the female lead didn't actually fall for Geralt just because :)) Loved the art, loved the concept, and also the fact that the female lead didn't actually fall for Geralt just because :)) 。。。more

(4 of 5 for surprisingly nice Witcher story)After the last one, I didn't expect much。 The art was nice, but the story didn't meet my demands。 This one feels quite different。 It's grim, really nice dark fantasy grim。 The story is also melancholic, a bit philosophic in the meaning of one's end of the world as he was made in。 I enjoyed it very much, I liked how the characters were done。 Yes, there are some minor downfalls but I let them slide this time。The art is somehow underperforming, but it's " (4 of 5 for surprisingly nice Witcher story)After the last one, I didn't expect much。 The art was nice, but the story didn't meet my demands。 This one feels quite different。 It's grim, really nice dark fantasy grim。 The story is also melancholic, a bit philosophic in the meaning of one's end of the world as he was made in。 I enjoyed it very much, I liked how the characters were done。 Yes, there are some minor downfalls but I let them slide this time。The art is somehow underperforming, but it's "close enough"。 From how the Fading Memories look I would guess that Bartosz Sztybor and Ahmad Mir are both Mignola fans。 The story feels mysterious, grim and revealing in a very Mignola way。 Also, art has to his style。 Simple, with chiaroscuro, modest colouring, effect like blood splashes and the foglets - look at them and say that is not something from Hellboy。 But I must appreciate that the art still has its way (away from my taste, but still)。Fading Memories is a great witcher story。 Bit sad, but very atmospheric in a bit unsettling way。 。。。more

More reviews (and no fluff) on the blog http://surrealtalvi。wordpress。com/ Note: This graphic novel, though called 'Volume 5' collects the earlier released volumes 1-4 into one single volume。The Fading Memories is a story in four parts, each feeling like there will be four distinct stories with a central theme and main plot。 Toward the end they meld into a straight-up continuation though。 I very much enjoyed the main theme and how it is presented: One of the hallmarks in all the Witcher stor More reviews (and no fluff) on the blog http://surrealtalvi。wordpress。com/ Note: This graphic novel, though called 'Volume 5' collects the earlier released volumes 1-4 into one single volume。The Fading Memories is a story in four parts, each feeling like there will be four distinct stories with a central theme and main plot。 Toward the end they meld into a straight-up continuation though。 I very much enjoyed the main theme and how it is presented: One of the hallmarks in all the Witcher stories is that the age of monsters, and thus Witchers, is coming to an end。 Geralt wanders the world looking for work, but is really looking for a purpose for his life if there is no longer a need for a monster hunter。In each of the smaller stories he meets others who are in the same situation - one way or another each one's time has passed。 Viewing their struggles helps the reader understand Geralt a bit better。 I definitely enjoyed this aspect of the story the best - especially in the first one the theme was extremely well crafted and I was moved by it。 The second part is also very good, though the third and fourth feel weaker but luckily with a satisfying end。In terms of characterization, this Geralt feels more of the Witcher-from-the-game rather than Witcher-from-the-books but the difference is subtle。 The world feels just right。The art is crude which usually works for this type of graphic novel。 It works here as well most of the time - though in some dark panels I had to look twice to figure out which one of the characters is Geralt。In all all, a worthy addition to the (so far) excellent set of Witcher comics。 Fans should definitely check this out; as well, it should work for readers with no prior experience with Witcher given that the story is completely detached from other events or characters。 Reviewed from an advance reader copy provided by the publisher。 。。。more

Although I'm not sure where this stand-alone story should be placed in Sapkowski's chronology, I still had a lot of fun reading it and the style of the illustrations are in my opinion perfect for the type of story。 Anche se non sono sicura di dove vada posizionata questa stand-alone storia nella cronologia di Sapkowski, mi sono divertita comunque molto a leggerla e lo stile delle illustrazioni sono secondo me perfette il tipo di storia。 I received this complimentary digital ARC from the publishe Although I'm not sure where this stand-alone story should be placed in Sapkowski's chronology, I still had a lot of fun reading it and the style of the illustrations are in my opinion perfect for the type of story。 Anche se non sono sicura di dove vada posizionata questa stand-alone storia nella cronologia di Sapkowski, mi sono divertita comunque molto a leggerla e lo stile delle illustrazioni sono secondo me perfette il tipo di storia。 I received this complimentary digital ARC from the publisher in exchange for a honest review。 。。。more
